Travel Vaccines & Medications
Every vaccine and prevention medication we offer for Canadian travellers — prescribed online, administered at our Toronto pharmacy.
Vaccines
Yellow Fever Vaccine
The yellow fever vaccine is a single-dose live-virus vaccine providing lifelong protection against yellow fever — a potentially fatal mosquito-borne illness endemic to tropical Africa and South America. The Virtual Travel Clinic is a Yellow Fever designated provider in Toronto, authorized to administer the vaccine and issue the official WHO ICVP certificate required for entry to many countries.
Hepatitis A Vaccine
Hepatitis A is the most common vaccine-preventable illness in Canadian travellers. Spread through contaminated food and water, it can cause weeks of jaundice and fatigue. The vaccine provides near-complete protection and is recommended for virtually all travellers to developing regions — even for resort stays.
Typhoid Vaccine
Typhoid fever is a serious bacterial infection spread through contaminated food and water, particularly common in South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Africa. Two vaccine options are available in Canada: a single injectable dose (Typherix or Typhim Vi) and a 4-capsule oral series (Vivotif). Strongly recommended for all travellers to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and sub-Saharan Africa.
Rabies Vaccine
Rabies is nearly 100% fatal once symptoms develop — but 100% preventable with timely vaccination. Pre-travel pre-exposure vaccination simplifies treatment if bitten abroad and buys critical time in countries where life-saving immunoglobulin is unavailable. Strongly recommended for extended travel to India, Southeast Asia, and Africa.
Japanese Encephalitis Vaccine
Japanese encephalitis is a rare but serious mosquito-borne viral brain infection that can cause permanent neurological damage or death. The Ixiaro vaccine is recommended for travellers spending extended time in rural rice-farming regions of Asia during mosquito breeding season. Not needed for standard city or beach resort travel.
Dukoral (Cholera & Traveller’s Diarrhea Vaccine)
Dukoral is an oral vaccine that protects against cholera and provides 60–70% cross-protection against ETEC — the bacterium responsible for most traveller’s diarrhea. Taken as a drink before travel, it is one of the most widely used travel vaccines for Canadians heading to Mexico, the Caribbean, India, and developing regions worldwide.
Meningitis Vaccine
Meningococcal disease (meningitis and septicaemia) is a rare but potentially fatal bacterial infection. Certain travel destinations — particularly countries in the African Meningitis Belt and Saudi Arabia for Hajj/Umrah — require or strongly recommend meningococcal vaccination. The quadrivalent ACWY vaccine covers the most dangerous strains encountered by travellers.
Tick-Borne Encephalitis (TBE) Vaccine
Tick-borne encephalitis is a serious viral brain infection transmitted by Ixodes ticks in forested areas of Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, and parts of Asia. TBE can cause permanent neurological damage or death. The TBE vaccine is strongly recommended for travellers planning outdoor activities — hiking, camping, cycling — in endemic regions.
Hepatitis B Vaccine
Hepatitis B is a viral liver infection spread through blood, sexual contact, and contaminated medical or dental equipment. While routine vaccination is part of Canadian school immunization programs, many adults have incomplete records. The combined Twinrix vaccine efficiently covers both Hepatitis A and B in one schedule — ideal for most travellers who need both.
